Shaking up Tech
High school students get a taste of the limitless possibilities of technology at Shaking up Tech event.
Every year Aalto University, LUT University and University of Oulu will host a coordinated Shaking up Tech event, which aims to inspire young women to study technology after high school.
The technology field offers many opportunities to have an impact on the world.
Health technology, space science…
…sustainable development, mobile application design, management roles in the business world! Students graduate from Universities with dozens of different areas of specialisation. Technology professionals create the products and services of the future.
Through the Shaking up Tech event, Aalto University, LUT-University and University of Oulu want to offer young women – soon facing study and career choices – a new understanding of technology.
The goal is further to indicate that young women have more than enough expertise and skills to study technology. The partners of the event include a range of businesses that share the same goal. Technology is the field of the future and there is already competition in the labour markets for competent women.
The event encompasses speeches given by alumni and professors. The event also offers a selection of concrete workshop options and then concludes in the evening with a study fair.
”The world would be heading in a much better direction if everyone would be as open, curious and enthusiastic as the girls taking part in my workshop. It felt like they taught me more than I was able to teach them.” said Linda Liukas in 2018 when the event was first held. She is a children’s author, illustrator, and active promoter of coding.
