The field of technology offers a versatile and international study environment as well as broad and well-paid career opportunities. However, work must be done to increase awareness of the field, role models, and young people's sense of self-efficacy.

Of the new university students in the field of technology who started in 2025, the proportion of women is currently about 30 percent, but the differences between fields are large. ¹

Science and technology offer a significant number of jobs in Europe – nearly 74 million people aged 25–64 worked in science and technology fields in the EU in 2024.₂ Although the number of female engineers and researchers in the EU has grown over the past decade, the Finnish labor market is among the most segregated in the EU, and the field of technology is still very male-dominated. According to Eurostat, in 2024 Finland's share of female researchers and engineers was among the lowest in the EU, at 30 percent. The highest shares were in Latvia (50.9%), Denmark (48.8%), and Estonia (47.9%). ^2,3
