Arrival

Shaking up Tech is organised at the University of Oulu's Linnanmaa campus (Erkki Koiso-Kanttilan katu 1). You will be received near the main entrance (2T) lobby in Agora. You can easily find the door – above the entrance there is a large green "Oulu University" sign and signs inside.

By bus: 

You will arrive by bus at Oulu's bus station. The nearest stop to the station is called Linja-autoasema E. Buses 1, 2, 5, and 8 take you to the Linnanmaa campus. Get off at the Yliopisto P stop. Buy your ticket from the OSL app or directly on the bus with a card. You can check local traffic schedules and routes on the route planner.

By train: 

You will arrive by train at Oulu's railway station. Exit the station's underpass in the direction of Raksila to reach the Linja-autoasema E stop. Buses 1, 2, 5, and 8 take you to the Linnanmaa campus. Get off at the Yliopisto P stop. Buy your ticket from the OSL app or directly on the bus. You can check local traffic schedules and routes on the route planner.
 

By car: 

Please note that we do not reimburse travel costs for journeys made by car for the portions of the trip that can be traveled by public transportation.

Departure

After the event ends, members of the event team will guide you on your journey home. If you have a bus or train departing on the day of the event such that you must leave the event before 18:00, you can leave earlier if needed.

The trip from the university to the railway station or bus station takes about 30 minutes.

If you are arriving at the event location from further away, Shaking up Tech will arrange accommodation for you at the event location. You are entitled to free accommodation for the night before and/or after the event if:

• You would have to leave home before 6:00 a.m. on the event day in order to arrive at the event location no later than 20 minutes before the event begins.
• You would not make it home before midnight on the event day if you left the event location at 17:30 or later than that.   

Accommodation is arranged in shared 2–3 person rooms at Scandic City Hotel (Saaristonkatu 4). More detailed information about the accommodation will be sent separately to those participants who indicate a need for accommodation when they accept their spot at the event.

Please note that participants do not need to make an accommodation booking themselves; Shaking up Tech books participants' accommodation in accordance with the participation confirmations.

During the event, all meals are free of charge for participants. Please indicate any special dietary requirements on the spot acceptance form.

Breakfast 08:00 - 09:30 

You can sign up for breakfast when you accept your event spot. Hotel guests do not need to sign up for breakfast, as breakfast is included in their accommodation.

Lunch 11:15 – 12:15 

Lunch is served after the morning talks session; each year we invite the event's speakers to join us for lunch.

Dinner 16:30 - 17:30 

Dinner is served at the study fair. 

Shaking up Tech reimburses travel costs incurred from travelling to the event for all event participants. On behalf of the participant, we apply for a tax-exempt grant to cover any travel costs within Finland (vero.fi/grants).  

Booking and purchasing travel tickets is your responsibility. Travel reimbursements for tickets must be applied for, adding receipts, by 5 February 2027. So remember to keep all tickets and receipts! More detailed instructions and the travel reimbursement form for applying for travel reimbursements will be sent by email to all participants during the event week. Travel reimbursement applications are processed in the order they are received, and the processing time is usually about three weeks.

We reimburse the use of a personal car in accordance with the official government mileage allowance only for those parts of the journey that cannot be made by public transportation.

Please note:  

• To fill in the travel reimbursement form, you will need your personal online banking credentials and a personal Finnish bank account.
• The travel reimbursement form is personal, and you can only apply for reimbursements for your own expenses with the form. One form is used to apply for reimbursement for one person's actual journeys, and the applicant for the expense reimbursement must be the user of the travel ticket. So you cannot apply for reimbursements on someone else's behalf, and reimbursements cannot be paid into another person's bank account.
• We reimburse the use of a personal car in accordance with the official government mileage allowance only for those parts of the journey that cannot be made by public transportation.
• We only reimburse journeys directly from home to the Linnanmaa campus and journeys directly from the Linnanmaa campus to home. If you are unsure about the amount of travel costs eligible for reimbursement, please contact us by email.
