Elina Pyykkö, Metso

What have you studied and what influenced this choice back in the day?

I hold a Master of Science in Industrial Engineering and Management from LUT University. At school, I enjoyed mathematics and chemistry, and those interests guided my study choices. I was accepted to study both engineering and pharmacy. In the end, engineering and industrial management won because I felt they would offer more diverse opportunities.
 

How did you end up in your current position?

My current role is Filtration Business Line VP at Metso. I have worked throughout my career in 
the technology industry, mainly with customer-tailored solutions in a global business environment.
 

What is the best thing about your job?

The best part of my job is that I get to work as part of a team with top professionals in a global environment. I also get to contribute to building business strategy, customer value, and future growth. Learning something new is always inspiring.
 

What have been the highlights and key lessons of your career?

Naturally, the biggest successes and failures of my career have stayed with me. I have learned a 
great deal from them through practical experience. I strongly believe that a positive and 
constructive attitude helps you move forward.
It is people who do the work — success requires a committed, skilled, and enthusiastic team.
I have personally had the opportunity to be part of new things by daring to say “yes” even in 
situations where it felt intimidating to step into bigger shoes.
 

What are your plans and goals in the future?

The opportunity to learn new things, develop the business, and achieve goals motivates me every day. A global business environment and technological development ensure that there is busy days ahead.
