Polymer manufacturing
Workshop description
Subject: Polymer chemistry
In this workshop, you will get to explore polymer chemistry and make your own polymer.
Polymers are large molecules composed of repeating structural units called monomers. They are an essential part of life – found in plastics, textiles, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, and even biological structures such as DNA and proteins. Polymers can be synthetic or biopolymers, and their properties can be modified in various ways for different applications.
Alginate is a natural polymer obtained from seaweed. It is used in medicine, for example, due to its low toxicity and cost-effectiveness. In workshop, you will receive a brief introduction to the basics of polymer chemistry, after which you will get to produce alginate polymer yourself.
