3D Printing
Topic: Digital manufacturing
In this workshop, we will start by looking at what industrial 3D printing is and what are the significant and innovative industrial applications.
When registering for the event, the participants choose one workshop they want to participate in (Aalto University and University of Turku) or the three they prefer, which they would primarily like to participate in (LUT and Oulu University).
Using the menu, you can read the descriptions of either all the workshops or the ones organized at a specific university.
You can find the list of the 2025 confirmed workshops below
Topic: Digital manufacturing
In this workshop, we will start by looking at what industrial 3D printing is and what are the significant and innovative industrial applications.
Topic: Mechanical engineering
Join this exciting workshop to learn about new emerging manufacturing methods that can break the limitations to our creativity imposed by conventional manufacturing methods.
Topic: acoustics and material chemistry
This workshop will introduce you to new acoustic materials made from natural fibres (e.g. cellulose).
Topic: Neuroscience and medical technology
In our workshop, you can get to know Aalto University's brain research laboratories, and also measure yourself the function of the brain, nervous system and heart.
Topic: Computer science
Participants get to try to break into a WPA2 protected wireless local area network
Subject: Brief overview of mineral foaming and green transition
We need bubbles for many purposes. Now we will demonstrate how it is used in the production of metals. Let's try to clarify how multidisciplinary the extractive industry is.
Subject: Knowledge of material structure
In this workshop, you will learn how to prepare fine samples for microscopy methods used in structural research and examine slag samples under an optical microscope.
Topic: Sustainability Science and Solutions
In this Environmental Technology workshop, we will step into the shoes of a product developer: how different circular economy strategies can reduce the environmental impact of mobile phones and create new business.
Subject: A brief overview of good water quality and photocatalysis
In this workshop, you will get hands-on experience of photocatalytic water treatment and learn how the photocatalytic process works.
Subject: AI
In this workshop, you will dive into the world of data analytics and artificial intelligence, where vast amounts of data are transformed into useful information and intelligent services.
Topic: Industrial Engineering and Management
"The Duck Factory" is a hands-on workshop that explores production planning and control by simulating industrial production with Lego brick structures.
Topic: Electrical engineering and automation
In the workshop, we will familiarize ourselves through practical demonstrations with the measurement of electrical signals generated by the heart and muscle activity, sensations produced with electrical currents, and how these phenomena can be modeled using computer simulations.
Topic: digitalization
Come to design and make a design product for yourself using digital manufacturing methods with a laser and a sticker cutter.
Topic: design
At the LUT students' prototype workshop in the J. Hyneman Center, you can design and implement your own product.
Topic: Audio signal processing and virtual acoustics
In the acoustics workshop, you will get to familiar with Aalto's acoustics laboratory in three phases
Subject: cybersecurity
The workshop will go through the basics of cybersecurity testing on the Hack the Box platform.
Topic: Organic Chemistry and Fluorescence
In this workshop you synthesize a fluorescent dye and learn about fluorescence.
Subject: Building and civil engineering
Come to the workshop to try out the thermal camera and look for cold bridges in structures.
Topic: Digital Manufacturing
In the workshop, we will start by going through what a laser beam is and how it is used in industry, for example for precise cutting of protective glasses for phones.
Topic: Production economics
How fast can you produce LEGO cars?
Subject: Fibre and particle technology
Come and learn how the circular economy and industrial side streams can provide concrete solutions to combat climate change in cement production.
Topic: Modelling materials and AI applications
Hands-on computational tutorial
Topic: Chemical engineering
What are microplastics and how do you test for them in environmental samples? In this workshop, we will investigate the quantity and quality of microplastics washed up on a sandy beach.
Topic: Arctic technology and ice mechanics
In this workshop you will perform material testing on ice to understand it breaks against various structure types and get to see how different offshore wind turbine structure types break the ice around them in model scale tests.
Topic: Automation Engineering
In this workshop we will program a small robot.
Topic: energy and electricity
In this workshop on energy and electricity, you can test your skills as a wind power producer and learn about the potential of solar power.
Topic: material engineering
In this workshop the studets will operate a Charpy notch impact test machine to test the impact strenght of a steel bar.
The workshops at Aalto University are filled up in order of registration.
Each participant chooses a workshop and attends the demo session according to the following schedule:
