Can AI See Your Heartbeat?

Workshop description

Topic: computer vision, signal processing, deep learning and contactless human sensing
Language: English

Computer facial recognition

Can an ordinary camera detect your heartbeat without touching you?

Participants will record a short facial video, perform face analysis, extract and process colour signals, estimate heart rate, and experiment with movement and lighting to understand when the method succeeds or fails. We will also demonstrate a thermal camera to compare different sensing technologies and discuss why future intelligent systems may combine several sensing modalities.

No previous programming experience is required. A prepared Jupyter Notebook will guide the participants through the experiment step by step. We will also provide an Android template for those who would like to continue experimenting afterwards using a smartphone camera and sensors.

Organiser: the Multimodal Sensing Lab (MMSLab) team, Center for Machine Vision and Signal Analysis (CMVS), Faculty of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering

Number of participants: 10
